Thursday Pairs League
Didn’t we do well?! Thursday 14th November saw the presentation of TWO trophies to Nottingham Riders, Winners of both the League and the Cup, and one for Nottingham Reivers who were Runners Up in the League in this long-standing, most enjoyable local competition. Well done to all the club members who participated this year.

Sunday October 27th saw the first round of the Mercia Winter League. It was a beautiful, sunny autumn day in the lovely Carr Bank Park, Mansfield, with the usual warm welcome from Carr Bank Petanque Club. Inter Regional Championship and Challenge 2019
September 14th and 15th
The Inter-Regional Championship and Challenge Competition at Hayling Island once again proved very tough. Those players from our club representing Mercia gave their best but generally lost out to some very good teams from around the country. One player who deserves a special mention is Gilbert Pinnock who played in the competition for the first time. He coped admirably with the tough terrains and the strain of playing over two days. Well done Gilbert.

A creditable performance for Nottingham against some top-class opposition
We went, we saw ….. we didn’t quite conquer (apart from some nerves perhaps) but we put on a good show, playing competitively, with good humour and sportsmanship. We didn’t win any of the three pool matches, though managed 12 wins out of the 33 games, scoring 29 match points out of a possible 93, against some very strong teams of experienced players – including a good number of top English International and Regional players. A good experience overall which gives us some clear, positive targets for future development. NCPC are proud to have reached the final stages of this prestigious competition, finishing in 13th place out of the 72 teams (58 clubs) who entered.

Nottingham qualifies to play for England at the Home Nations Championships for the 1st time in the Club’s history!
The Home Nations Championships were held on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th August at Mill Rythe Holiday Village,Hayling Island. This annual challenge event is hosted by one of the competing nations each year, and this year was England’s turn to host the event. England, Scotland, Wales and Jersey were all competing for top honours and at the end of the weekend’s play, England comfortably retained the title with 77 wins, Jersey were in 2nd place with 51 wins, Wales were 3rd with 36 wins and Scotland were 4th with 28 wins.
For the first time in its six year history, Nottingham City Pétanque Club qualified as one of the eight teams selected to represent England in this prestigious event. This is recognised as a significant, inspirational achievement for the club, as not only did the team of Mokhtar B, Abdel F, Brian F and Peter N qualify, but did so in 1st place against some of the strongest teams in England.
The team received their England shirts and wore them with pride, contributing 7 wins (out of the 12 games they played) to the total achieved by the full England squad.
Grateful thanks are extended to our local Sherwood ward councillors – Adele Williams, Brian Parbutt and Jane Urquhart –who made a significant financial contribution to travel and accommodation costs from their Ward Budget fund.
